Tom Farber was born in Tracy, Minnesota, and raised in Walnut Grove (the childhood home of Laura Ingalls Wilder). He graduated from South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota, with a degree in Agricultural Education.
Following graduation, he was a Vocational Ag Teacher and then began a career in banking. As a bank branch manager, he became licensed and began selling insurance for Farmers Union Insurance, which became his full time work. Tom has been the owner of the Farber Agency in Britton since 1987 and has obtained his Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation.
Tom and wife Lori have three children; Blake, Mason and Alexandra.
Tom has been an active community member throughout his years in Brittton. He purchased the closed Strand Theatre in 1987 and began extensive remodeling with the assistance of many other community members. The theatre was re-opened in 1988. Tom has also purchased, assisted or held an active role in building renovations throughout the community.
